As always I love purchasing a pattern that has been drafted to my height. It’s amazing how much difference that makes! Sinclair patterns just fit better from the start. The shorts have so many options and I’ll probably try many of them. However because there are so many options and I like to initially print all options and sizes, and then trace off what I want I did run into a problem getting the correct set of hemlines traced. I’d suggest reading through the directions first before tracing so you are aware of what you need.

I have made two pairs of these shorts and absolutely love them. They are so comfortable! I made both pairs without the side pockets, and I plan to make two more pairs but with the addition of back pockets. I made size 14 petite and added 3/8 inch to the front rise. These are the first pair of shorts that I have made in all my years of sewing that fit like a dream. Easy construction, great instructions, go together quickly. I like Sinclair patterns because I usually can make a petite and not have to do a lot of alterations to the pattern.

I walk 3+ miles every morning in very hot humid temperatures so I have a wardrobe of walking shorts that must have several pockets to carry my phone, handkerchief and kitty treat for the neighborhood kitties. These shorts were perfect. This was my first Sinclair pattern so I was hoping the sizing and instructions were good. Sizing was spot on with no adjustments. Sewing was easy. I put in the zipper pocket to secure keys, etc. and it really wasn’t difficult. Loved the wide elastic in the back. Really cute shorts. Very professional looking.

Now my go to shorts

Pull-on shorts are a change from the usual fly-front I make, but I was ready for something different. I made the Petite 16 Long Length with zip pocket and pocket flap. The many pocket pieces and the various cutlines for the side panels were confusing for a while during cutting and sewing, but I once I understood it, no problem. Personally, I'll use a narrower waistband and elastic in the future (just works with my body better). Tips - iron up the leg hems before sewing the inseams ("memory hem") and after elastic is in the back waistband and basted in place, wear the shorts for several hours with phones/keys/etc. in your pockets to ensure the elastic is tight enough. I just finished my shorts yesterday to this stage and wore them, and will now tighten the elastic again before sewing those last 2 rows of stitching through the elastic. Great pattern. I will make it again.

Such a great style for this hot Summer we have had. The tutorial was clear but the fit just did not work for me. I went by the measurement chart and even measured for rise and crotch depth but the fit was not good. I will certainly make another pair and refine the fit because it really is exactly what I was looking for.

Made longer version from mid-weight linen. They turned out perfect. Written instructions were a bit difficult to follow for side pockets but Karina's (Lifting Pins and Needles) tutorial was really helpful. Made my second pair in a light-midweight denim. They're a bit stiffer and I don't like them as much. Only change I made was adding an inch to all pieces as I wanted them right above my knee. I don't remember any lengthen or shorten lines on the pattern pieces. Wish they were there. Didn't think I could love these more than my Jakarta shorts but I think I do. I'll make both again and again. Thanks Sinclair!
