Onyx wireless athletic bralette (PDF)
I always use powermesh in my sports bras. The one I made from athletic knit holds up even to swimming in the ocean. My CL one stretches out and looks sloppy after wearing (although it has powermesh). As always with Sinclair the fit is spot on.
I really like how this fits around the shoulders - it gives enough space for movement and doesn’t feel skimpy. Will be adding this to my rotation of sports bra patterns!
This was my first Sinclair pattern, my first sports bra and my first projector pattern so plenty of new experiences.
Firstly, the pattern is very well conceived and drafted and the instructions were nice and clear. I made a toile to check the size (US8, petite, regular bust, racer back) and tweaked it a bit.
I am not new to bra making but this was my first sports bra so it included some techniques I have not used before, such as reinforcing every seam with elastic and lining with power mesh to give it good support. I would say that it is not a beginner's project as some areas can be quite challenging, for instance the baguette approach to the straps (fine if you keep your wits about you!) and dealing with the increasing thickness of some areas by the time you have several layers of fabric, mesh and elastic to sew through. My finished bra is serviceable rather than beautiful, but I've learnt enough to make the next one better.
Finally, as this was the first time I have used a projector for sewing I can say that it made my life very easy. Everything worked fine (as long as I used Adobe Reader to open it) and I did not need to do anything except turn off the layers I didn't want, project and cut!
Thank you, Sinclair Patterns
Clear pattern instructions and true to size, I made the full back version. I lengthened the bralette about 1.5cm as I always find this style slightly too short in the centre front. It came together easily and I made it with scuba so it also provides good support. I used 2" elastic for the band and it is comfortable for day wear but I'll use 1" in future as I became aware of the band later in the day. Very pleased, thanks.
Haven’t made it yet
I love the design options and fit of this bra. I'm enjoying trying out different fabrics for it. I love that I can wear it every day and also for sports.
This bra fits so well. I love the styling with all of the options. The H back is really cool! Pair this with the Pulse tank and you have an amazing set!
This has become one of my favorite patterns. It's easy and a good way to use up scape fabric and is way cheaper than bying new ones. Can be made in 2 hours. I just kept making them. I've made close to 10 so far. Thank you for the pattern.
Having a small frame, but fuller bust, I’ve always had trouble getting a bra that fits properly, is comfortable, and is pretty (doesn’t look like something left over from my grandmother). This bralette hits all those marks from me, and using a more supportive fabric for the lining, means I can comfortable wear it as an everyday bra.
The Onyx sports bra is fantastic! I made the H back and I want to say thanks for such great sizing and instructions- can’t believe how great it came out!!! So far have loved every Sinclair pattern I’ve sewn.
