What is a layered pdf pattern and how to use it?

What is a layered pdf pattern and how to use it?

Layered PDF pattern is a special format of a pattern where you can hide or show and print only sizes that you need. No more multiple lines that look like mess and are hard to trace and cut.

How to make it work with print at home pdf pattern (made for A4 and US letter paper format):

  1. Open your pattern in Adobe Actobat on your computer or laptop. This is a free app that can be downloaded from Adobe website here: https://get.adobe.com/reader/
  2. Click on the Stacked paper icon on the left. A panel with layers will open. Click or unclick layers with sizes. Leave only layers that you need to use.

How to print layers with Copy shop files?

A0/Copyshop format patterns can be printed in a local copy shop or online. If you order online from companies like https://pdfplotting.com you can make notes to your order which layers/sizes to print.

If you are printing at your local copy shop ask them to print only certain layers with the sizes you need. Make sure that they open the pattern file in Adobe Acrobat as it is shown in the video above.

How to use layers on my phone or tablet?

At the moment layers are not supported on mobile devices by mobile Adobe reader or other pdf readers.

What if layers do not show up when I open my pattern in Adobe Reader?

Sometimes files can be partially downloaded or corrupted and that can be a reason why layers do not show. Try to re-download your pattern from your account.
